The Igbo World Assembly (IWA) Convention 2012 officially commenced on Tuesday, September 26th, 2012, at Nelrose Hotel, Asaba, with a vibrant atmosphere and an impressive turnout. The event, which had been meticulously planned for months, began at 9 AM with an opening speech by IWA Chairman, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, followed by other formal protocols.
Distinguished Attendees & Key Participants
The convention attracted IWA leaders from across the globe, including:
• Hon. Kingsley Obi, President of the Igbo Improvement Union, Spain
• Delegates from the UK, Netherlands, South Africa, USA, and other countries
• Chief Debe Ojukwu, first son of the late Igbo hero, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
• Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Community & Cultural Affairs
• Women Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo
• Traditional rulers
• Prof. Ukwu I. Ukwu
• Agu Ojukwu, former Economic Adviser to the Abia State Government
• Rev. Father Zigo, who led a powerful praise session
• Youth representatives from Delta State, led by Ifeanyi
• Members of the Lower Niger Congress (LNC), led by Tony Nnadi
• Ngo Martins, a renowned Delta State lawyer, who later launched a book on the Igbo people on the second day of the event
The enthusiastic turnout exceeded expectations, with over 600 participants, including guests from the South-South region.

On the security front, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Iyke Ayo Aduba, attended alongside his Deputy, PPRO, and the Area Commander. Security was reinforced with over 15 mobile police officers stationed at the venue. The Commissioner delivered an advisory speech to the youth, emphasizing unity among the Igbo people and stating, “All Onitsha and Delta people are Igbo.”
